Try Tabata.
The concept couldn’t be simpler.
Nor the time it takes be any shorter.
Yet somehow you finish a session with Hanan dripping in sweat, gasping for breath, aching throughout yet at the same time FEELING FANTASTIC!
Fitness experts the world over know all about Tabata. The method is named after a Japanese researcher by the same name who stumbled on a way to effectively work both the aerobic and anaerobic systems at the same time. The beauty of its approach is its ability to blitz body fat fast and it only takes four minutes to complete.
Yes, only FOUR minutes!
What’s the catch I hear you ask? Well, it’s definitely not for the faint-hearted. The intensity is high which makes it tough … but then, all the toughest things in life pay the greatest dividends.
So what exactly is Tabata?
Tabata is a form of HITT: High Intensity Interval Training and it’s possibly the world’s greatest way to get fit and lose fat because even when you’re finished, your metabolism keeps working and burning fat. I could see after just one session that doing it regularly would take your physical conditioning to a whole new level.
The method works like this …
• Pick a compound, multi-joint exercise that uses as many muscles as possible … in our session, we did various jumps, squats, burpees, bicycles, jacks and kettle bell lifts
• Perform as many reps as you can for 20 seconds … although in our session, we did each for 50 seconds. Too hardcore for our own good!
• Rest for 10 seconds
• Repeat seven times for a total of eight sets … as above, I guess we did it for 20 mins or so in total … and for the record, I put the boys to shame!
Hanan runs through each exercise with you … corrects your technique throughout and motivates all. Just hearing the words ‘Great work Tori’ never fails to inject a little power and energy into a tired body!
And if pushing that little bit harder makes for a physique like Hanan herself, then the pain is definitely worth while!

We run a time challenge every week or so where we do a 300 rep workout and see who finishes first. That should take care of this etiquette confusion
